To Paul and his friends.
I just spent one week in Berlin and went to see Paul.
I have known Paul since I was a child in the 1950's. He visited my parents, Aksel and Gerd Schiotz in our summerhouse in Northern Denmark, and he has kept in contact with our family ever since.
Before leaving for Berlin i read his website, and was very sad to hear that he was in the hospital, so I decided to try to visit him. I did, and I must admit it was quite sad. He did recognise me I think, but I could see it bothered him a lot that he couldn't express his thoughts.
I tried to remind him of our wonderful Skagen summers, and he smiled. He also smiled when I mentioned my twin sisters' name.
I held his warm strong left hand for a long time, but he very soon got tired and I felt it best to leave. It was a very moving moment.
I am now back home in Oslo, and I shall be very grateful for any news on Paul's health. Birgitte Grimstad

Hi, Babette. You are welcome, of course, for these reports. They are infrequent because I am dependent upon what I hear from those in Germany who visit him and then notify me.

My name is Perry Nelson, and I am the person who set up this blog for Paul and encouraged him to post here. I have provided him behind the scenes assistance in the mechanics of posting to the blog. I share your concern for him and because I am aware of his world-wide circle of friends, I have attempted in his absence to provide what information I have on his condition.

I'm sure you know his birthday occurs on March 3. If you send communications to him by regular mail, you might keep that in mind.

Thanks so much to whomever is making these posts. I've been most worried at not hearing from Paul since an Email when he got out of the hospital the first time. Who are you?
Please send him our love, and tell him we're rooting for him. I'll try regular mail ASAP

Dear Paul,

I hope all the best and a soonest and fullest recovery for you.
The book sent to you was returned, but I will resend it to your hospital address, in hope that you aren't either there to receive the the book, but happily at home.

The book is a bout Daniil Shafran and (post) Soviet realities. Richter and Shafran played together only once, deciding after this never ever to try again. To great musicians, personalties, with firmest conceptions how to play...

Kind regards

Antti
