Lets not be simplistic in blaming "the media". The media has a master and that would be money people, like a board of directors, financial directors and so on.

I think everyone comes from the same place when they say 'the media' but there are two things that go on.

First there is a hunger for money. That isn't always the best idea.

Second, there is a hunger for a train wreck, and the public will consume it.

Apparently there is no description of what either taste like but yet we are insatiable for both. The media, isn't all to blame in this its about 50/50.

Nikita Khrushchov?

Might you persuade Paul to elaborate?

(But good grief! With all the fascinating names listed above I can see this easily getting out of hand ...)

Hi Paul,

please do me a favour and don't mix up "Schwaben" with "Baden-Württemberg" as you can easily read up at Wikipedia:

somewhat in contrast to the english version:

Swabia, Suabia, or Svebia (German: Schwaben or Schwabenland) is both a historic and linguistic (see Swabian German) region in Germany. Swabia consists of much of the present-day state of Baden-Württemberg (specifically, historical Württemberg and the Hohenzollerische Lande), as well as the Bavarian administrative region of Swabia. In the Middle Ages, Baden, Vorarlberg, the modern principality of Liechtenstein, modern German-speaking Switzerland, and Alsace (now belonging to France) were also considered to be a part of Swabia.

The origin of the Dampfnudel may very well be the Pfalz. When the palatian house Wittelsbach (Karl-Theodor) took over in Bavaria in1777, I am sure they brought even their recipes along with many other things.

So long

It appears that John Anderson is a mutual contact.
Though off topic from this posting, I wonder if you would be accepting of further recollections of Lynn and your days in New York?

My humblest apologies for your having to wait so long for a response - Xmas and all that, you know.... After the passage of c. 62 years I can no longer tell you who made Lynn Riggs' upright ("spinet") piano; I can however tell you that it did not come from a major maker - as I believe I mentioned, Lynn himself couldn't even read music, and I have no idea how he came to have one in his living room, merely as a piece of furniture.
     {This space denotes a second message from you, identifying Lynn as a close family relative of yours.}
Incidentally, a professor at Boston's Emerson College also emailed me about that bit of bloggery: he does semi-dramatized lectures about authors who especially interest him, among them Lynn Riggs; would it interest you for me to put the two of you into contact? That would entail only minimal digging on my part....

Mr. Moor,
When you mentioned Lynn Riggs upright, were you possibly referring to a Hobart M. Cable upright?

Have a Happy New Year,

So are you suggesting that he cancelled his Bolzano concerts
just to provide a cover story for his NY cancellation? Isn't it
rather outrageous that he didn't have a slightly shorter
"illness" so that he could make at least those concerts?
